I was wondering about what I could write this time and it just came to my mind that I could search about and just realized that I could try to make a mixture about my favorite band ever “The Beatles” and my theme which is Pop Art, they are about almost the same years, and in the same main places, the Beatles were born in Liverpool (London was one of the main points) , and then they made a great impact in Unites States and later John Lennon moved to New York( the second main point) and died there. It’s a fact that they don’t have everything in common but I basically like to compare everything with them so let get it started…

Well believe it or not there are some paintings or pictures of them which were turned to this pop art style. As I told you in previous posts this pop art usually turns famous people at this colorful style. There is one in specific that I want to speak about, which was made by Richard Avenson it was or a magazine called Stern and well, as a random fact I know a place here in Monterrey where this poster is separated for each beatle and in big size. I bet you to guess where they are, its not going to be that hard if you like music and you usually buy CD´s. Below I will leave a link with more information about the picture that I’m talking about.

Everybody knows what art is, well is a deep term but, I’m sure that if I ask you to define “pop” maybe you will take more than 1 minute to give a complete answer. Pop is an abbreviation in popular English which goes for the commercial.
Between the main characteristics of pop art is the realism, which means that the characters in the paintings are like humans, with no exaggerated things. And the main places are NY and London (My personal favorite places)

So, this one would be my second post and I'm still trying to improve the quality of this blog.

Researching once again about pop art I have found some interesting information. There is a famous artist who belongs to this type of art, his name is Roy Lichenstein and his creations were based mainly of almost totally in comics. The classic blond woman with the red lips it’s iconic from this artist. He was born in New York (in my opinion best city EVER ). His first paintings were strong influenced by the "Italian futurism". In fact there is a mural in the NY subway, which was made by Lichenstein; it’s between Broadway and the #42, it’s basically about a yellow subway with a man starring at it. There is also other one in NY about a girl in a window, this one (for a change) is not blonde but a redhead, and it was made in 1964 and well, as all the pop art creations the main colors are yellow, red and blue. In his career as artist he got some awards from Massachusetts, Rome and obviously New York.

Above you will find some Lichtenstein paintings.

Let’s start with the basic information. What is pop art?

Well, it started in 1950 in Britain and then it moved to United States, and the guy who basically named this king of art was James Mchale and before it was called “pop surrealism”. It also moved to other countries, (Spain, Italy, etc) but let’s stay with the main ones.

People (like my mother) consider that this kind of art is non-sense. This is because, the pop art it’s related to the "Dada", which was a cultural movement in which there were no rules, everything could be considerated as artistic.

In Pop art we got some rules, for example they need to be about or related to a everyday situation, thing etc. For example the popular can of soup of Andy Warhol, which is my favorite one. Other classic of Warhol are the paintings and murals of famous artists at that time like Marilyn Monroe. Maybe you will also find a lot of artists painted under this style, I was looking yesterday and I found Michael Jackson, and John Lennon.

After researching this, I remember that in NY there are some murals and paintings which I’m sure that are from this “pop art” so I will research for my next post who made them. So for today I think we’re done.
